Hello,

I am trying to configure Apple private relay email service to work with our Freshdesk setup. This turned out to be way more complicated than I tought.

I started by adding the domain and email adress we currently use to send and receive emails to the Sign in with Apple configuration: xxx-support.freshdesk.com, and [email protected]. They were successfully added, and Apple is correctly showing that there is no SPF verification for this domain or email address, as expected.

I proceeded by following this guide to add SPF records to our own domain: https://support.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/43170-create-an-spf-record-to-ensure-proper-email-delivery

I successfully added these records to our DNS configuration, but Apple was at this point still showing SPF as being unverified. I figured that this was probably because we aren’t using our own domain name for sending and receiving emails.

Now, as I am adding a support email address using our own domain, it seems like Freshdesk requires me to create and verify a Google account for sending and receiving emails to this address (we use Google Workspace). This is not what I want, I only want a forwarding address to be set from within Google Workspace. I would rather not create an actual Gmail inbox for this.

At this point, I am not sure how to proceed. Did I miss anything or do anything wrong? How can I use Freshdesk with Apple private relay email service? Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Viktor

Apple Private Relay tends to be strict about domain ownership and verification. When the actual sending domain differs from the configured one, it often fails verification. Might help to use a custom support domain fully under control with verified DNS records.

Yeah, this does seem to be the way forward. However, it seems like this requires me to add an actual Gmail inbox and setup email forwarding to Freshdesk. I would very much like to add a forwarding address inside Google Workspace instead, but that doesn’t seem to be an option on the Freshdesk side, which makes me a bit puzzled.
